Seattle Erotic Art Festival's 2011 Call for Art!

Artists, get your creative engines turning! The Seattle Erotic Art Festival will be accepting submissions January 1-31, 2011, for the ninth annual event.

All artists age 18+ are encouraged to submit up to five (5) works of erotic art of any medium. Sculptors, multimedia artists and painters are particularly encouraged to apply. Submissions can be made online at SeattleErotic.org, throughout January.

The Festival is a jury-selected, erotic fine art exhibition and arts festival. A place where art that is rarely seen in mainstream galleries and museums can be celebrated, discussed and supported. An event where clichés of "sexiness" can be replaced with intriguing explorations of eroticism.

A different and new Festival jury is appointed every year, with careful consideration. To increase diversity of the selected art, the jury consists of an erotic artist, an art professional, an art collector, a sex positive activist, and a Festival committee member. Art is selected by a blind jury; jurors never know whose work they are reviewing during the process. Unknown and famous artists alike are given equal consideration and opportunity.

In order to show the work of successful and international artists who no longer choose to submit their work to juried shows, the Festival does include curated and invited artist sections as well, but the juried work has always represented the majority of art showcased at the Festival.

We stand by our mission to support a vibrant creative community, supporting living artists with low submission fees and commission rates. Selected art will be showcased throughout the three-day event to thousands of patrons. The Festival sells far more art than any other erotic art festival.

Artists may also choose to submit to the Festival Store, which has a later submission deadline (to be determined). Artists do not need to attend the Festival in order to participate.

Spread the word, and sign up for our newsletter to receive updates.

For performance art in 2010, the Festival is striking out in a bold new direction.  Award-winning NYC-based director Roger Benington will create an original narrative framework to complement the Festival's world-class visual art exhibition.

Benington will select acts from the entire range of performance styles: ballroom dance, burlesque, modern dance, ballet, circus arts, drag performance, puppeteering -- anyone with an erotic act to share is invited to apply.

Applications are now being accepted at www.SEAFArtist.com.

The deadline for applications is January 15, 2010.  Auditions will be held January 24-25, 2010.
I am involved with the Seattle Erotic Art Festival which is being held May 1st -3rd, 2009. If you know any artists who might want to submit to the show, please pass this on to them. The Festival has garnered prestige for accepted artists and has a great track record for sales for artists.

Call for Art Deadline January 30

We invite artists of all backgrounds, countries, ethnicities, cultures, genders, sexualities, and ages (18+) to submit up to five (5) works of art of any media. Sculptors, multimedia artists and painters are particularly encouraged to apply; please note that photography is a highly competitive medium. Artists do not need to attend the Festival in order to participate.

The Seattle Erotic Art Festival was founded in 2002 by the Foundation for Sex Positive Culture to promote freedom of sexuality, speech, and creativity through the erotic expression of fine art. The Festival strives to exhibit work not easily found in mainstream galleries and museums; we enjoy art that avoids, or pokes fun at, cliches or stereotypical images.

Entry Requirements
Accepted artists must be at least 18 by April 30, 2009, the first day of the next Festival. Artists may only submit finished art of their own creation. The Festival is intended as a contemporary art festival; only art created in 2006 or more recently will be considered. Art previously displayed at the Festival will not be considered for the Exhibition but may be considered for the Festival Store.

* US$15 entry fee (waived for non-North American artists).

Incomplete entries will not be accepted. The Festival reserves the right to refuse any entry. Substitutions are not allowed.

Festival Store
Artists wishing to sell items exclusively through the Festival Store must also complete the online artist registration form (be sure to indicate that you want to show via the Store), but do not need to fill out the Art Submission form at this time; and are required to pay the $15 submission fee. The focus on the Festival Store is prints, small work, jewelry, oddities, books, DVDs, collectibles, and similar merchandise. Artists do not have to be accepted to the Exhibition in order to submit merchandise to the Festival Store; however, the items they submit must be approved by Store Management.

Here is a quick and dirty video of part of our dress rehearsal we did this week for this Saturday's coming White Show at the Little Red Studio. It's always so helpful to be able to see an act on video when you are working on it. I thought it would be fun to share, as I have tried to explain to various people what kind I performance I do at the Studio. I think this can give an idea of the performance, though it doesn't give away any of the surprises.

Oh, and we kinda had to be bad with the music. The LRS band, Red Delicious, weren't available to help us out with the music on the video. (Key band members missing.) So that's why we went with Henry Connick, Jr's version of "Swinging on a Star." He does a nice job, but Heather, our singer is infinitely better in that her voice matches the feel of our piece so perfectly. For the music alone you should come to the show on Saturday. Hopefully, we will get that music track swapped out soon.
